Ok, so the final installment of "Strike Wars" was a couple of days late. Big whoop. I worked entirely too hard on this. Hopefully a few of you enjoyed it, or at least read it.

The entire 6,000 word trilogy can be read at our website.

Strike Wars! Episode one.
The Empire Strikes! Episode two.
The Return of the Semester. Episode three.

Sadly, I had enough material to write 3 more of these if I really wanted to.

[more shameless self promotion ahead]
Also, if you are interested, my band you are the war that i want will be playing at the Nyabinghi on Saturday night with a crazy band called Soiler. Show starts at 11 p.m. I would assume.

I was really afraid this lumberjack would come after me when I snapped his picture on Wednesday. Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style.

But he didn't. He must be one of those friendly lumberjacks, like Paul Bunyan.

Anyway, he was cutting down trees in front of the brand spanking new Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center [see story in Sept. 22 Jambar "Rec center to open Monday"], the bad-ass new addition to Youngstown State University's campus. The new rec center opens Monday morning.

While I am really excited about this new rec center and the prospect of shedding my Freshman 15, my Sophomore 10, my Junior 10 and my second Junior year 15 (so what: I'm fat and a super senior), I have to admit I was a bit dissapointed when I found out Akron U. has a lazy river in their rec center.

WHERE'S OUR LAZY RIVER!

Seriously though, it should be good times at the rec center. Assuming, at least, the crazy rule manual doesn't get you first. And it just might.

This “Vote or Die” business [see: Sept 15 Jambar article “’Vote or Die’ put down’] begs the question: who has the ultimate authority to say which flyers are acceptable to post on campus and which flyers aren’t? Is it SGA or is it Greg Gulas in the Student Activities office?

All the stamps for flyers on campus bulletin boards say, “YSU Student Government” and in fact, SGA approved Keith “2fly” Logan’s flyers. But then Student Activities overruled SGA.

If student activities can pop out of the woodwork to say “this is not allowed,” perhaps they should take the responsibility of approving flyers in the first place so people like 2fly don’t waste their time hanging up flyers that might get taken down later.

I can’t help but feel Gulas overreacted a bit. The posters are clearly a riff on the Sean “Diddy” Combs campaign last fall and mean no ill will, even if the connotation is “vote for 2fly or die.”

It’s like 2fly said, “It’s not like anyone’s actually going to die.”

On a side note, props to the person who suggested a “talk like a pirate or die” campaign. If that happened, the landlubbers would bae linin’ up to learn pirate-speak, lest they bae forced to walk the plank and sleep in Davey Jones’ locker.

Keeping in mind that Monday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day...

This is The Pirate Captain, Whil Piavis, Student Government president of North Carolina State University.

And this is Bob McGovern, Student Government Association president at Youngstown State University.

..does anybody else think Mr. McGovern should at least wear an eye patch? Yarrrg! I certainly do.

Avast ye scalawags! The Jambar has two stories on this most hallowed of irreverent holidays:
A Pirate of an SG president: A Jambar Q and A with The Pirate Captain
and
Hear this, landlubber: Ahoy! International Talk Like a Pirate Day is upon us

Just testing this out to see if it works. Let's hope so.
